Volunteers

Have you ever thought about volunteering but weren't sure about what to do or how to get started? If so, South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District has a number of opportunities for you to volunteer to enrich your community. The success of many of our programs and events depends directly on the efforts of our volunteers! And there's a bonus: volunteering can be fun! The program also provides an excellent opportunity for high school students to earn service learning hours, and for college students to obtain valuable work experience. Below you will find a sampling of upcoming volunteer opportunities.

For more information please call 221-5484.

Special Events

Volunteer Coordinator for Triathlon
Are you great at instigating fun? Are you well-connected in this community with energy for motivating others to contribute to their community? The Whidbey Island Triathlon needs an enthusiastic and organized volunteer to coordinate the 100+ volunteers that make our triathlon on the first Saturday in August such a beloved event. Attend monthly committee meetings, recruit, organize and appreciate volunteers. This is an unpaid, volunteer position with great intangible rewards as you see the racers cross the finish line. Interested persons should contact Carrie Monforte at 221-6788 or programs@whidbey.com.

Chaperone for Snowrider Ski Bus
Do you like working with youth? We have alternate chaperone positions available. Ski for free on days you chaperone! This highly-organized program focuses on safety and provides the perfect getaway to Stevens Pass for kids in 5th-12th grades. We use chartered buses with drivers experienced in winter driving conditions, chaperones and emergency transportation. Whether you ski or snowboard, this is a great opportunity for fun and excitement! To apply, contact Kim Andrews at 221-5484 or email parkfun@whidbey.com.

Programs

Volunteer Coaches for Youth Basketball and Youth Dodgeball

We strive to provide a fun environment which realizes and challenges each participant's playing potential while maintaining the integrity of disciplined and fair "Team Play". Coaches receive free registration for their child. Coaches must attend the Skills Evaluation for their appropriate age group. Coaches should be available for the coach/referee meeting also. Contact Carrie Monforte at 221-6788 or programs@whidbey.com.

Do you have a passion for working with kids? Do you love the outdoors? Is fun and safety your number #1 priority? Then we have a great job for you! Spend your summer creating a great summer for kids in our community. Seeking energetic, responsible persons. Pays $8-12/hour, DOE. Camps run throughout the summer with preliminary training required. Interested persons should contact Carrie Monforte at 221-6788.

Volunteer Junior Counselors
We are now seeking Junior Counselors for our summer day camp program. This is your opportunity to get experience working with kids in a fun outdoor camp program and receive valuable training.
