South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District is pleased to announce the acquisition of a thirty acre parcel adjacent to Community Park and South Whidbey High School. The property was purchased at a price of $390,000. Closing occurred on October 30th.
Based on input received from local citizens and stakeholder groups, District staff is currently developing a Request For Qualifications seeking an experienced design firm to assist in developing a campground on a portion of the property. Additionally, the District will be applying for Acquisition & Development grants next spring, through the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program grants process.
Staff is also working with South Whidbey Parks & Aquatics Foundation to establish a Property Development Fund to accept tax deductible donations toward property development. The first event planned to benefit the fund is a Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run in Community Park on November 21st.
Any questions regarding the agreement or requests for additional information should be referred to Doug Coutts, Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
