Writing from Movement I & II
Participants will learn the basics of semantics,
then write short poems from that movement experience. Student
need not have taken Writing from Movement I. Returning
students will also benefit from this class.

A Creative Collaboration with
Nature
Class will contain an
overview of the site-specific and nature-based work of artists like
Andy Goldsworthy and Robert Smithson. Students will design and
create their own work in this vein in a natural setting.

Three-day camping trip at Mt.
Rainier. Work with park
rangers on a trail restoration project and enjoy the beauty of Washington's
greatest mountain. Students must bring their own camping gear; food
will be provided.

Introduction to Marimba
Participants will be introduced to playing on
marimbas in ensemble form. Marimba is fun and easy to learn
without any prior musical experience. If you have a musical
background you will be introduced to the complexity and variety that
abounds in this traditional music from Southern Africa.

Geocaching!
Geocaching is an entertaining outdoor adventure
similar to a high-tech scavenger hunt. "Geocachers" follow
their GPS in search of hidden treasures. GPS provided.

Open Studio I & II
Have time and space to create - this class can be as self-directed as you want it to be or form can be created. This is a time to delve into a variety of art mediums and discover who you are through the process. Student need not have taken Open Studio I. Returning students will also benefit from this class. Tibetan Prayer Flags
Create an amazing block print and print a set of Tibetan prayer flags. In traditional Tibetan tradition, your flags will encourage peace, happiness and good health. Papermaking & Paste Papers
Make plain and decorative papers from cotton and abaca pulp. Learn the creative process of paste papers by applying pigments on paper and manipulating the colors to make patterns. The papers are good for book covers and gift wrapping. Date: Tue, July 8 |

Bookbinding
Create handmade books for great gifts. They are also good for journals, albums, portfolios and reports. Adding an attractive binding to a homework assignment has been known to impress the teacher. The Papermaking and Paste Paper class is recommended, but not necessary. Date: Thu, July 10 |

Use flat and round reed to make this woven ribbed basket which is also known as an egg, melon or twin-bottomed basket and is used in many cultures to carry fragile loads to market. Date: Wed, July 9 |

Wool Felting
Use dyed wool fiber, apply heat, moisture and
agitation and turn it into beads and flat felt. See the
Combine Wet Felt with Needle Felting class for the next process.

Felting
Embellish flat-felted pieces with needle felting (dry felt), beads and buttons. These pieces can be stitched into masks, purses or hats. Bring your own beads and buttons. The felting class is recommended but not necessary. Date: Thu, July 10 |

Eating on Whidbey
Is there anything better than a juicy tomato fresh from the garden? We'll find out. This class will take you into the school gardens of South Whidbey where you'll learn how to grow food locally, work on an art project and best of all, cook up a meal with what you harvest! Date: T/W/Th, July 1 - 3 |
Omelets & Biscuits for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner You'll learn how to make a basic omelet and homemade biscuits - then serve them up to friends and family for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We'll experiment with other ingredients you choose to create and inspire your own meals. Learn how to make homemade baking mix and take home mix and a recipe book. This workshop will support you in your quest to be healthy both inside and out!
