Chum Run - June 24, 2017

The South Whidbey community invites you to the 20th Annual Chum Run 5K.  Our friendly and enthusiastic community (with a great running tradition) makes the Chum Run one of the most enjoyable Northwest running events.  A short ferry ride from Mukilteo and you are instantly transported to the rural environment of South Whidbey Island.  After the race, you can have lunch and explore the nearby village of Langley.

Description:  A lovely 5K run or walk on the forested, well-groomed trails of South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District’s (SWPRD) Community Park. 

The Chum Run 5K benefits SWPRD and the Healthy Island Youth Scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to enable Island kids to participate in organized sports.

Where:  South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District’s Community Park located at 5495 Maxwelton Road.  Only 10 minutes from the Clinton Ferry terminal.  (See driving directions below.)

Price:  $25 advanced registration by 6/14
$30 day of race registration
Shirt are only guaranteed for those who register by May 18.


When:  Saturday, June 24, 10:00 am.  This starting time allows “off Island” folks to conveniently get to the race.

Awards:  Awards are given three deep in student and age group divisions.  Medals given to first place 3 males/females overall, high school, and middle school divisions.

Course Details: The course is a runner’s delight:  two loops through the forest paths of Community Park on groomed, packed forest soil.  It is a fun course, with many turns and a few small hills. 


Kid’s Run: The “Fry Run” is held immediately after the Chum Run and before the awards ceremony.  Awards for all participants.

How To Get There From Mukilteo:

Take the Mukilteo Ferry to Clinton, you will be on Hwy 525, drive 3.8 miles to Maxwelton Road, turn right on Maxwelton Road, go .6 miles and turn right at the entrance to                      Community Park.

How To Get There From The North:

Take Hwy 20 from I-5 (near Burlington) to Deception Pass. Travel the length of Whidbey Island on Hwy 20 and 525 going south.  It is approximately 50 miles from Deception        Pass to Community Park.  Seven miles after the town of Freeland, turn left on Maxwelton Road.  Drive .6 miles and turn right at the entrance of Community Park.

How To Get There From Olympic Peninsula:

Take the Port Townsend Ferry to Keystone.  Turn right off the ferry and follow road 4 miles to Hwy 525.  Travel south on Hwy 525 approximately 17 miles to Maxwelton Road. Turn left onto Maxwelton Road and go .6 miles, turn right at the entrance to Community Park.

Mukilteo Ferry Information:

Take the 9:00 a.m. or earlier ferry.  There may be a waiting line on Saturday morning.  It leaves every half hour and takes 20 minutes to cross.

Port Townsend Ferry Information:

There is a 6:30 a.m. ferry from Port Townsend (the 8:00 a.m. ferry is cancelled due to tides).  The crossing takes 30 minutes and the drive is approximately 35 minutes to Community Park.

LM Premier 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Enjoy great competition and test your skills against local players! Four players to a team. Team sign-up and info will be available soon. Bring your game to Whidbey Island!

Beat the Heat Waterworks
Youth & Children Accompanied by an Adult

If it’s nice and hot outside we will turn on the waterworks (sprinklers) at Community Park for a quick afternoon cool-off and set up our super–duper water slide. Youth must be supervised by parents/guardians. Those who participate consent to our standard waiver/release by participating.

Children's Day Festival
Saturday, September 24

READY, SET, GO!!!  Children’s Day is almost here and we would like to invite you to South Whidbey Community Park (5495 Maxwelton Rd, Langley) on Saturday, September 23rd 10AM-2PM for one of the biggest, friendliest, “familiest” celebrations on Whidbey Island.  There will be bounce houses, entertainment, 30+ exciting and interactive booths and even a free lunch!  All this will be provided to you at NO COST, courtesy of local organizations and businesses that support children and their families.  We hope to see you there!
